individual deductible

The individual deductible is the amount that an individual pays for covered healthcare services before the insurance plan starts to pay. With a $2,000 deductible, for example, the insured pays the first $2,000 of covered services.

After the insured pays the deductible for the benefit or benefit year, the insured usually pays only a copayment or coinsurance for covered services. The insurance company pays the rest of the expense.
